Hello
Hi! My name is Kaila. I have been teaching Pilates and Yoga since 2003. I'm a mom to two fun and active teens and two energetic doggos. I have been a high school teacher for 18 years. I teach Yoga, Sports Medicine and I have taught Sports Performance and Physical Education. I have coached numerous sports for over three decades. I aim to empower people of all ages to realize what they are capable of, body and mind. Before I became a teacher, I taught fitness full time to ages 3-78. I am excited to help people learn Pilates, Yoga, and running to all who need it. And, we all need it!
We all have created neuromuscular patterns by the activities we do. These patterns connecting the brain, nervous system and the physical body, create movement that can lead to dysfunctional patterns, leading to stiffness, tightness, or at risk of injury. Whether you have a job sitting at a desk, play a sport that dominates on one side, or are recovering from injury, surgery, or pregnancy, it can all affect the body. Pilates exercises, fascial movement and a focus on alignment, balance the body to make you feel strong and flexible. Strength and Length go hand in hand; both are needed to function optimally every day.

My Story
My own fitness journey started long ago. I grew up playing sports and used running as a cross training regimen since I was 13.
I completed my Kinesiology degree in 2001 and was drawn to teaching a variety of fitness classes ever since. I discovered Pilates and completed my first certification in 2003 and have been continuing education every year since. It is a perfect blend of knowledge and fitness, such as strength and length, breath and body awareness. I credit Pilates with fixing my postural issues. My hip flexors and lower back were ridiculously tight from sports and running. I rarely stretched. After my first marathon in 2004, my hip flexors felt like rebar. The following year after working on this length and strength with Pilates, I completed another marathon, 19 minutes faster and not sore! I have completed six marathons, including Boston twice!
There are many reasons I got into core stability training, including a major injury from a car accident. This not only affected my body, but also my mind. Mindfulness meditation along with breathwork have gifted my brain the ability to slow down and combat the constant busy-ness and anxious thoughts that many of us are plagued with. I have a total of 500 hours of Yoga certification and I have found that Pilates and Yoga complement each other so well. In any fitness or athletic venture, the mind plays such a huge role in confidence, self-talk and motivation.
Two university degrees and over two decades later, courses and workshops throughout the years allow me to teach Matwork, Reformer, Barre, Fascial Movement, Injuries and Special Populations, etc. A variety of small equipment such as mini stability balls, fitballs, bands, fitness circles, foam rollers, twist ball, HALO, stability discs and cushions are used to round out a full repertoire of exercises to benefit everyone.
I am also a UESCA certified run coach. I can create a program for you to get you to your first race or your ultimate race!
